Notes and Information

This individual was initially believed to be male, and named Baron.
At the time of her death Baronessa was the oldest walrus under human care, exceeding the previous record-holder by 5 years.
Baronessa "died of cardiac arrest due to stress"; she had been transferred to the zoo's Elephant House in preparation for work on the walrus habitat, the process of which -- paired with the new environment and enclosed space -- the zoo stated had been the primary stressors causing her death.
