Notes and Information

This walrus was said to have been 7 months old upon transfer to Sochi, and was named via a public contest that ran from December 15th, 2008 to January 16th, 2009.

Gavryusha was planned to be flown to Beijing from Russia on December 25th, 2017, although a source published in 2019 stated that he was transferred "last year". Another source published on February 2nd, 2018 stated that Gavryusha had "recently" completed a 30 day quarantine period following arrival to China. Considering both of these sources, it is possible that Gavryusha's transfer had been postponed a few days.

At this time I have no certain information regarding Gavryusha's current status. The last mention of him that I've been able to find was on February 2nd, 2018, and I have thus far not been able to visually confirm his presence at Weihai beyond that date.
